About This Coin

Tin tokens authorized by King James II in 1688 for use in the American Plantations, denominated as 1/24 Real. Produced under a royal patent granted to Richard Holt, with dies engraved by John Roettier at the Royal Mint. These are the only American colonial issues struck in tin, featuring an equestrian portrait of James II on the obverse and four crowned shields on the reverse.
