Description

VarietyVista cataloged this as VDDO-009 for the 2024 American Women Quarter, documenting medium spread on the first 2 of the date with light spread extending to the ear and the hair above the ear on the obverse portrait. The dual-intensity diagnostic — medium on the date numeral, light on the portrait details — maps a displacement gradient where the date area received stronger hub doubling than the nearby portrait elements, consistent with a hub misalignment whose maximum displacement occurred at the date position and attenuated toward the portrait center. Die stage documentation tracks three states under provisional codes (UVC-???? and DMR-00?, indicating the unique variety code has not yet received its final assignment): Stage A identifies the die in Early Die State (EDS) by a die gouge positioned southwest of the date, with the reverse also in EDS. Stages B (MDS) and C (LDS) remain unconfirmed. The American Women Quarters program (2022-2025) honors notable American women on the reverse while the obverse features a new Washington portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser — the design originally selected in 1931 but not used until this series adopted it. Struck on copper-nickel clad planchets at 5.67 grams and 24.3 mm diameter, the 2024 quarter was produced at a U.S. Mint facility. As the ninth DDO for this date, VDDO-009 contributes to a growing variety census for the American Women Quarters that is still in its early documentation phase, and the provisional codes indicate this variety awaits final catalog integration by VarietyVista.
