Description
The 2023 (P) Jovita Idar Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 190.6 million examples, making this ranked 9th of 15 mint variants by mintage, with 7% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. Texas-born journalist, teacher, and civil rights activist who advocated for Mexican Americans and founded the White Cross, providing aid during the Mexican Revolution. Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka'ole, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jovita Idar, and Maria Tallchief honored. Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot's license.
