2021 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

2021 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 2021 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY shows moderate extra thickness. The Y is thicker at its upper right than at its upper left, the ERTY is notched at its lower left corners, and the date shows slight distortion. Obverse markers: a series of diagonal scratches through the date; a series of diagonal scratches leading from the mouth and chin; and a gouge (dot) on the central bust, NE of VDB. Reverse markers: a wavy crack on the shield's top left edge, above the PLUR of PLURIBUS; a gouge (dot) in the U of PLURIBUS, in its upper right arm; a tiny chip at the C of CENT, on its lower right edge; a light crack on the N of CENT at its lower left edge; and a small gouge in the field right of the lower part of that N. James Wilkins submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
