2019 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Doubled Die Reverse VDDR-016

Cataloged by VarietyVista, VDDR-016 on the 2019 Jefferson Nickel exhibits strong spread directed South, producing an extra left top central doorway and bottom triangle on the Monticello facade — a doubling pattern that closely parallels the companion variety VDDR-015 in both direction and affected elements but originates from a distinct working die. Three die stages have been recorded: Stage A is early die state (EDS, unconfirmed), Stage B shows a die chip at the lower left building edge at early-to-mid die state (EMDS) with the obverse also at EMDS, and Stage C is late die state (LDS, unconfirmed). The strong southward spread on the central doorway and triangular pediment creates one of the more visually accessible varieties in the 2019 Jefferson Nickel doubled die population, as the downward displacement of the architectural detail produces clearly separated primary and secondary images of the doorway structure. While VDDR-016 shares the same directional spread and affected design zones as VDDR-015, each variety represents an independent hub misalignment event on a separate working die, and the die markers distinguishing the two are captured in the VarietyVista system's UVC and DMR designations. The 2019 Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-nickel composition (75% copper, 25% nickel, 5.000 grams, 21.2 mm diameter). Felix Schlag's Monticello reverse, featuring the symmetrical neoclassical facade of Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate, makes the central doorway area a natural focal point for die variety examination.
