2019 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005

Description

Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling on the 2019 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel's Monticello reverse appears in two diagnostic locations: below the upper left portion of the door frame on the center door above the steps, and between the upper left portion of the door frame and the second column. The dual-location doubling confirms that the hub-to-die tilt during impression was substantial enough to produce visible displacement across a broad section of the reverse design. Obverse die markers are unremarkable, with none noted, but the reverse provides two useful attribution points: a die dot on the edge of the lower left side of the building and a die gouge below the E of FIVE. These secondary markers distinguish this specific die from the four previously cataloged 2019 DDRs. The door frame and column area of Monticello serves as a recurring diagnostic zone for Jefferson Nickel doubled dies because the architectural framework's rigid geometry makes even slight hub displacement clearly evident — curved or organic design elements can absorb minor misalignment less conspicuously. Philadelphia's 2019 nickel production continued the Return to Monticello reverse adopted in 2006, and WDDR-005 demonstrates that Class VIII tilted hub varieties remain actively produced on modern nickel dies. Collectors should examine the upper left door frame area with at least 5x magnification to identify the doubled architectural lines.
