Cataloged by VarietyVista, VDDR-015 on the 2019 Jefferson Nickel presents strong spread directed South, producing an extra left top central doorway and a bottom triangle on the Monticello building. This southward directional spread indicates the secondary hub impression shifted downward relative to the primary impression, displacing the architectural elements of the central doorway area vertically. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A is early die state (EDS, unconfirmed), Stage B shows a die chip at the lower left building edge at early-to-mid die state (EMDS) with the obverse also at EMDS, and Stage C is late die state (LDS, unconfirmed). The strong spread classification means the extra doorway and bottom triangle elements may be visible at lower magnification than light-spread varieties require. The EMDS (early-to-mid die state) designation in Stage B represents an intermediate classification between traditional EDS and MDS, providing finer granularity in tracking the die's service progression. The 2019 Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-nickel composition (75% copper, 25% nickel, 5.000 grams, 21.2 mm), part of the Return to Monticello series (2006 to date).
