Description

Jeff Stanley identified this 2019-P Jefferson Nickel doubled die reverse, which displays Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling below the upper left portion of the door frame on Monticello's center door above the steps. The leftward emphasis of the doubling helps distinguish this WDDR-024 from other 2019 DDR varieties that may affect the center or right portions of the same architectural feature. A die chip in the lower portion of the numeral 2 in the date provides the primary obverse pickup point. The reverse carries an abundance of die markers: a die gouge below the M of AMERICA, a die dot above the EN of CENTS, die gouges below the RIB of PLURIBUS, and a die break on the left side of the Monticello building. This die break suggests the die experienced significant stress during its service life, and collectors may encounter varying degrees of break progression depending on when individual coins were struck. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2019-P WDDR-024, this regular strike merits careful examination of the door frame's upper left quadrant.
