Description

Medium spread directed Southwest on this 2019 Jefferson Nickel reverse produces an extra top to the left central doorway roof of Monticello, along with a light extra bottom edge on the triangular pediment above the main entrance. Cataloged by VarietyVista with die tracking code UVC-1876 and die marriage reference DMR-007. Three die stages have been identified: Stage A is an early die state (EDS) that remains unconfirmed; Stage B shows both the reverse and obverse at mid-die state (MDS), representing the most commonly encountered condition; Stage C reaches late die state (LDS), also unconfirmed. Felix Schlag's Monticello design, with its architectural columns and stepped entrance, provides particularly diagnostic surfaces for detecting hub displacement, as the geometric precision of the building contrasts sharply with any secondary impressions. The southwest spread direction indicates the working hub shifted toward approximately 7 o'clock between impressions during the die manufacturing process.
