2018 (P) Voyageurs National Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Holding the primary reverse doubled die designation for the 2018 Philadelphia Voyageurs National Park Quarter, WDDR-001 (Wexler catalog 2018-P 25¢ MN WDDR-001) anchors the DDR catalog for this Minnesota-themed ATB release. WDDR-001 represents a documented reverse hub misalignment event on the Voyageurs quarter. The Voyageurs National Park Quarter reverse, designed by Patricia Lucas-Morris and sculpted by Joseph Menna, depicts a common loon on the water with a rock cliff behind it — a design that carries a different visual character from the Homestead reverse's architectural detail. The Voyageurs scene's organic forms (the loon's plumage, water ripples, cliff contours) respond to hub doubling differently than geometric elements, producing thickened outlines and blurred edges rather than cleanly separated parallel lines. No independent cross-references outside the Wexler system have been published. Voyageurs National Park, established in 1975, encompasses over 218,000 acres of interconnected waterways, boreal forest, and exposed Canadian Shield bedrock along the United States-Canada border in northern Minnesota. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-nickel clad composition (5.67 grams, 24.26 mm diameter, reeded edge), this quarter was released in 2018 as part of the ninth year of the ATB program. Examination under 7x magnification, particularly along the loon and cliff contours, provides the most effective pathway for confirming the hub doubling that earned this variety its primary catalog designation.
