2018 (P) Voyageurs National Park Quarter - CU-25c-2018P-01(VO) Rim Cud

Description

Reported on August 13, 2018, this rim cud was identified on a 2018-P Voyageurs National Park quarter from the America the Beautiful series. A rim cud represents the loss of part of the die's rim gutter: on the struck coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that tracks the rim's course. The location and size of rim cuds vary widely, and each represents a unique die failure event. Voyageurs National Park, located in northern Minnesota along the Canadian border, is represented on the reverse by a common loon on the water with a rock cliff behind it. Cud errors on America the Beautiful quarters are actively collected, as the program's 56 different designs spanning 2010 through 2021 generated a substantial population of die breaks across the various mints and issues. Collectors value cuds for their visual impact and the insight they provide into die longevity and failure patterns.
