2018 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-011

Description

Distinguished from the ten earlier doubled die obverses cataloged for the 2018 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent, WDDO-011 presents sloped extra thickness on LIBERTY with no doubling visible on the date. The absence of date doubling narrows the diagnostic focus to the LIBERTY inscription, where the sloped character of the extra thickness indicates a specific angle of hub misalignment during the die manufacturing process. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2018 1¢ WDDO-011, the high sequence number reflects the intensity of doubled die research on recent Shield Cent coinage. Obverse die markers include a die chip below the left side of the G of GOD and another well below the N of IN, providing reliable secondary diagnostics for attribution. On the reverse, a die scratch extends through the lower right bottom of the E of STATES, and a vertical die chip appears under the right side of the horizontal bar of the second T of STATES. These reverse markers help confirm the specific die pair even when the obverse doubling is difficult to resolve under lower magnification.
