2018 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

2018 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 2018 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date and LIBERTY show moderate extra thickness. IN GOD WE TRUST shows extra thickness too, its spread shrinking from left to right. Wexler records two stages. The Stage A obverse has no markers. On the Stage B obverse: a gouge (dot) in the central opening of the ear; a horizontal scratch over the RTY of LIBERTY; and a gouge (dot) on the central part of the bust. The Stage A reverse has no markers. On the Stage B reverse: a small gouge on the U of UNITED at its upper left edge; a short diagonal scratch at the rim above the AT in STATES; and small chips on the shield's top left, above the L and the first U of PLURIBUS. Robert L. Adams III submitted Stage A and Rodger L. Ryan Stage B. The updated Stage B photos and markers, along with additional Stage B photos, come from a coin of Larry Alford's. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
