Description
The 2017 (P) Jefferson Nickel represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Jefferson Nickels Return to Monticello 2006 to Date series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 710,160,000 nickels dated 2017. The obverse shows Jamie Franki's forward-facing portrait of Thomas Jefferson in a three-quarter view, introduced in 2006 as the first U.S. circulating coin portrait of a president facing forward, and the reverse shows Felix Schlag's Monticello, restored by John Mercanti. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.21 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #628135.
