Description

2017-P DC WDDR-024 is a doubled die reverse on the 2017-P Frederick Douglass National Historic Site quarter (District of Columbia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. Minor doubling shows on the house's right side, low and centered in the space separating the first and second windows. Obverse Stage A has a short vertical gouge inside the upper part of DOLLAR's D. Obverse Stage B keeps it and adds a long crack across the bust's base, with die chips over QUARTER's T and to the left of the designer's initials; a gouge inside AMERICA's C; a gouge left of the bottom of LIBERTY's E; and E/W scratches through DOLLAR's LAR. Wexler says these Stage B gouges and scratches might or might not appear on earlier stages. Reverse Stage A has no significant markers. Reverse Stage B has three heavy gouges through and under the designer's initials TRH; again, these might or might not appear on earlier stages. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
