Description

2017-P DC WDDR-014 is a doubled die reverse on the 2017-P Frederick Douglass National Historic Site quarter (District of Columbia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. Slight doubling shows inside the first window on the house's right side, low down. Obverse Stage A has a gouge inside GOD's D, a gouge touching the lower left side of LIBERTY's L, a gouge between LIBERTY's T and Y, and a gouge left of DOLLAR's A. Obverse Stage B keeps those and adds a long crack across the bust's base, with die chips over the J of the designer's initials, over DOLLAR's D, and over QUARTER's last R. Reverse Stage A has a die chip on Douglass's face, on its right side. Reverse Stage B keeps it and adds feeder finger scrapes right of the house, over Douglass's right arm, and through the first floor windows. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
