Description

Seventy years of continuous production have made the Roosevelt Dime one of the most extensively cataloged denominations in die variety collecting. From the original silver issues of 1946 through the clad era that began in 1965, each production year has contributed varieties to the record. WDDR-011 from the 2016 Philadelphia Mint extends this tradition, representing the eleventh doubled die reverse identified for that year. The longevity of Sinnock's design means that collectors can compare doubling patterns across decades of production, noting how changes in die manufacturing technology — from hand-operated presses to modern hydraulic equipment — have influenced the types and frequency of hub misalignment. Despite technological improvements, doubled dies continue to appear in modern production because the fundamental hubbing process still involves physical contact between two metal surfaces, and perfect alignment on every impression remains mechanically challenging. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2016-P 10¢ WDDR-011.
