Description
Southward displacement shifts the secondary coat contour below the primary edge, creating a doubled outline visible under magnification along the soldier's uniform. The Fort Moultrie quarter's reverse depicts Sergeant William Jasper raising the regimental flag during the 1776 British bombardment of Sullivan's Island, a scene rich with figural detail where subtle hub displacement manifests along the flowing lines of military garb. Stage A documents the obverse in Early Die State and the reverse in Early-to-Mid Die State. Two doubled die reverses targeting the same coat edge from different dies suggests this region was particularly susceptible to visible hub displacement.
