2016 (P) Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-016

Description

2016-P KY WDDR-016 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Cumberland Gap National Historical Park quarter (Kentucky) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. Very slight doubling shows on the frontiersman's coat fringe, just left of his upper right arm. Obverse markers: a die chip on the bust's base left of the designer's initials JF; a gouge between the tops of QUARTER's T and E; a long gouge right of the lower part of QUARTER's E; a gouge in the inner right corner of TRUST's first T; two large gouges over IN's N; a gouge in the upper opening of UNITED's E; and a gouge between the bottoms of AMERICA's A and M. Reverse markers: cracks running along the left sleeve of the frontiersman, and a small chip at the elbow; over the gun barrel, right of the left sleeve, a pre-die break depression; under GAP's P, another pre-die break depression that follows the outer ring; many thin N/S scratches between the frontiersman and the lettering; and a gouge between DOORWAY's R and W. Aaron Laramee submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes this is a replacement listing: the first WDDR-016 turned out to duplicate WDDR-009.
