WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse for the 2016-P Cumberland Gap National Park Quarter. The Wexler Team assigned it the reference 2016-P 25c KY WDDR-001, with no other cross-references known. Cumberland Gap — the natural break in the Appalachian Mountains that served as a primary route for westward migration — is depicted on the reverse through Barbara Fox and Joseph Menna's design showing a frontiersman gazing through the mountain passage. Hub doubling on the ATB quarter reverses tends to concentrate in areas of fine relief — rock faces, foliage, the subtle contours of geological features — where the design's shallow modulation makes secondary impressions easier to detect than on flat or deeply struck areas. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint on standard copper-nickel clad planchets (5.67 grams, 24.26 mm), the 2016 Cumberland Gap quarter had a sizable mintage, and WDDR-001 specimens surface with reasonable regularity in unsearched rolls, making this an accessible entry point for ATB variety collecting.
