2016 (P) Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-015

Description

2016-P KY WDDR-015 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Cumberland Gap National Historical Park quarter (Kentucky) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. Very slight doubling shows on the frontiersman's coat fringe, just left of his upper right arm. Obverse markers: many small gouges across the central obverse, notably over LIBERTY's Y; a small gouge between AMERICA's I and C; and a small gouge right of DOLLAR's first L. Reverse markers: many thin NE/SW scratches between the frontiersman and the lettering; a thin N/S scratch under DOORWAY's Y; a strong scratch running S from the right side of THE's T and curving W toward the bottom of that letter; and two strong but short scratches running NW from DOORWAY's A. Aaron Laramee submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes this is a replacement listing: on study, the first WDDR-015 proved to be an earlier stage of the WDDR-010 die.
