2016 (P) Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-012

Description

One position before WDDR-013 in the Cumberland Gap Quarter DDR sequence, WDDR-012 carries the Wexler Team reference 2016-P 25c KY WDDR-012 and shares the same design context: the Barbara Fox and Joseph Menna reverse depicting a frontiersman at the Appalachian mountain passage in Kentucky. No additional cross-references are known. The proximity of WDDR-012 and WDDR-013 in the catalog is purely a numbering artifact — each represents a completely independent working die with its own unique hub doubling event, and the sequential numbers reflect cataloging order (typically discovery or submission sequence) rather than any physical relationship between the dies. On the Cumberland Gap reverse, the diagnostic zones for DDR attribution include the lettering of CUMBERLAND GAP along the lower border, the fine texture of the frontiersman's fringed garment, the geological layering in the rock formations, and the architectural suggestion of the passage opening itself. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-nickel clad composition at 5.67 grams, these quarters entered circulation through normal distribution channels during 2016. The ATB program (2010-2021) ultimately produced 56 designs over 12 years, each with its own variety population.
