2016 (P) Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-009

Description

2016-P KY WDDR-009 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Cumberland Gap National Historical Park quarter (Kentucky) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. Left of the upper right arm, the frontiersman's coat fringe is doubled, and strong northward doubling also appears on his thumb and along the rifle's top. Obverse markers: a small gouge before the bridge of the nose; a small gouge before the lower lip; and a gouge between QUARTER's Q and U. Reverse markers: a circular gouge halfway between DOORWAY's Y and the shoulder; a gouge over the right side of DOORWAY's second O; and a gouge over the O in TO, toward its right side. Daniel Messano submitted the variety, with additional die markers from a coin sent in by George W. Powell, Jr. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes that it closely resembles WDDR-001 and WDDR-008 but comes from a different working die, with doubling somewhat weaker than on those two.
