2015 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-012

Description

Strong eastward spread producing extra blades of grass on the upper grass strip makes this twelfth doubled die reverse for the 2015 America the Beautiful quarter one of the more visually distinctive varieties in the series. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-2269 and DMR-013, this variety progresses through documented die stages: Stage A is Early Die State (unconfirmed), Stage B shows both reverse and obverse at Mid Die State, and Stage C reaches Late Die State (unconfirmed). The grass strip detail on the reverse provided a design element where the eastward hubbing offset created clearly visible extra blades — organic elements like grass, leaves, and branches tend to show doubling more dramatically than geometric lettering because their irregular shapes make secondary images immediately apparent. The 2015 ATB quarter program included five designs honoring Homestead (Nebraska), Kisatchie (Louisiana), Blue Ridge (North Carolina), Bombay Hook (Delaware), and Saratoga (New York), and this DDR belongs to one of those commemorative reverses. The America the Beautiful quarter series (2010-2021) generated an enormous number of die varieties because each year's five unique reverse designs required new hub and die preparation, multiplying the opportunities for hubbing misalignment during the annual die manufacturing cycle.
