2015 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-034

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2015-P 25¢ DE WDDR-034, this America the Beautiful Quarter displays strong doubling below the right end of the upper grass strip positioned between the great egret and the great blue heron on the Delaware Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge reverse design. The doubling\'s location within the detailed wetland scenery makes it visually distinctive, as the grass elements provide a clean reference against which the displaced secondary impression can be measured. Two documented die stages show progression: Stage A with no significant markers, and Stage B exhibiting two die chips on the heron\'s beak with another below its eye, a die gouge above the lower grass strip between the egret and heron, and an obverse die gouge on the base of the bust above the left side of the E in QUARTER — progressive deterioration that developed as the die accumulated strikes. The gouge on the bust above QUARTER may or may not be present in earlier stages, indicating it appeared during the die\'s mid-service life rather than being an original die preparation feature. No cross-references to other cataloging systems are currently known. The America the Beautiful Quarter series ran from 2010 through 2021, featuring national parks and sites across all 50 states and territories. Struck in copper-nickel clad composition weighing 5.67 grams with a 24.3 mm diameter, the 2015 Delaware quarter was produced at the Philadelphia Mint. The Bombay Hook reverse depicts the refuge\'s characteristic marshland ecosystem, and the doubling\'s placement within the grass detail between two wading bird species demonstrates how complex pictorial designs create numerous potential locations for visible hub displacement effects.
