2015 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-028

Description

Five additional doubled die reverses beyond WDDR-023 were cataloged for the Bombay Hook quarter before this WDDR-028, bringing the documented total to at least twenty-eight varieties for this Delaware-honoring design. The Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge quarter, issued in 2015 as part of the America the Beautiful series, features a great blue heron in its wetland habitat — and the intricate feather and vegetation details provided ample opportunity for hub misalignment to produce visible doubling. Cross-referenced as CONECA 12-R-VIII, this variety is classified under the same Class VIII tilted hub doubling mechanism as WDDR-023, though the two represent different die events producing distinct patterns. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2015-P 25c DE WDDR-028, the increasing sequence numbers document ongoing discovery. The ATB program ran from 2010 through 2021 with five new designs annually, and each new design meant new hubs, new dies, and new opportunities for the manufacturing deviations that produce doubled die varieties sought by specialists.
