Description
The E of WE and the TR of TRUST carry trails on 2014P-1DEO-009T, offset at 120°, east-southeast, to the right and down. TrailDies' code means 2014, Philadelphia, one cent, obverse design extension, file 009, trails. At the middle die state, a curved crack crosses the top of Lincoln's head. On the reverse a crack sits midway along the shield's upper left edge, and a die gouge lies in the field just left of the shield's right corner. Daniel Messano found the die. The usual explanation is rotary polishing of the die; a smaller camp argues the die moved against the hub instead.
Die Markers
- Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – A curved die crack is seen on the top of Lincoln’s head.
- Reverse is MDS – a die crack is seen in the middle of the top, left edge of the shield. A die gouge is seen in the field just to the left of the right corner of the shield.
