2014 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-003T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Faint trails come off the date on 2014P-1DEO-003T, offset at 100°, just south of east, toward the right rim. TrailDies' number identifies a 2014 Philadelphia (2014P) cent (1); DEO places it in the obverse design extension files, number 003, and T gives the trail type. On the coin described, a middle die state, a horizontal crack runs across the top of Lincoln's head; the reverse has nothing noted. Because the lines are faint, that head crack may be the easier feature to find first. Joe Koelling found the die. Most writers ascribe trails to rotary polishing of the die, though a few prefer die-to-hub movement as the cause.
