Description

This is a replacement listing for the 2013 Fort McHenry National Park Quarter. The original WDDR-010 was found to be die deterioration doubling. A strong spread to the south shows on the right roof of the fort. On the obverse, small die gouges appear between the D and O in DOLLAR, touching the lower left side of the first L in DOLLAR, right of the top of the last L in DOLLAR, touching the upper left side of the U in UNITED, and above the E in UNITED. On the reverse, a die gouge sits right of the first SE-pointing firework spray in the lower burst, and a long die gouge appears above the doubled roof. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2013-P 25¢ MD WDDR-010, this Philadelphia Mint clad quarter belongs to the America the Beautiful series honoring Fort McHenry in Maryland, where the defense against British bombardment in 1814 inspired "The Star-Spangled Banner." The replacement designation underscores the importance of expert review in distinguishing genuine hub doubling from die deterioration.
