2013 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

Part of the America the Beautiful quarter series, this 2013 Fort McHenry National Park Quarter exhibits doubling spread to the south on the bottom of the arch, the bottom of three windows above the arch, the roof above the windows, and along the roof line of the fort's architectural elements. The southward spread creates extra thickness below these features, producing a shadow-like effect beneath the structural lines. This variety is very similar to WDDR-005 but lacks the doubling on the spray of the firework burst — a critical distinction that separates these two otherwise closely related die varieties and requires careful comparison of the firework area to confirm attribution. Fort McHenry in Baltimore is the birthplace of the national anthem, and the quarter's reverse depicts the fort with fireworks and a waving flag — the scene that inspired Francis Scott Key during the War of 1812 bombardment.
