Description

DDR-002 is a doubled die reverse variety on the 2013-P Jefferson Nickel, attributed by VarietyVista and catalogued under die pair UVC-1818, DMR-003. The doubling produces an extra strong spread to the south that manifests as an extra right central doorway roof on the Monticello reverse — a vivid diagnostic on the famous Virginia plantation design introduced by Felix Schlag in 1938. Die state progression is well-documented: Stage A, an Early Die State, is characterized by a die crack running from the lower left building corner to the rim on the reverse, with the obverse also in Early Die State; Stage B, an Early to Middle Die State, adds a light die crack in the field to the left of the building, with the obverse in Early to Middle Die State. The 2013 Jefferson Nickel was struck in the standard 75% copper, 25% nickel alloy at the Philadelphia Mint. Cross-reference: VarietyVista DDR-002, die pair UVC-1818, DMR-003.
