Description

2013-P SD WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 2013-P Mount Rushmore National Memorial quarter (South Dakota) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is light: LIBERTY shows extra thickness, and its lower right serifs are slightly notched. Obverse markers: a crack crosses the bust's base and passes through the designer's initials, and a scratch runs S from beneath the chin. There are gouges to the right of the base of AMERICA's I, to the left of the base of IN's I, and (a small one) within GOD's O. Another gouge lies midway from LIBERTY's R to QUARTER's U; one sits under QUARTER's T; one is inside UNITED's U; and one touches the lower inside of UNITED's N. The reverse is itself a doubled die, Wexler's 2013-P SD WDDR-007, doubled on the lower part of Jefferson's nose. Its markers: off the right foot of the suspended worker a crack runs N; there is a gouge over the scaffolding's far left post, with another to its left; a gouge sits under the suspended worker's hammer; there are field gouges under MOUNT's M and N, two field gouges under RUSHMORE's R, and a gouge in the rocks beneath RUSHMORE's M. Aaron Laramee submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
