2013 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

Exhibiting Class VIII tilted hub doubling on the Monticello reverse, this 2013 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel WDDR-006 shows doubling below the upper portion of the door frame on the center door above the steps. Class VIII doubling arises when the hub is tilted at an angle during die production, generating a rotational spread that can manifest in localized areas rather than uniformly across all elements. The center doorway of Monticello — with its detailed door frame, steps, and pediment — provides a design area where even subtle tilted-hub displacement becomes detectable. Reverse die markers include a die dot below the N of UNUM, a die chip between the right edge of the building and the F of Felix Schlag's designer initials FS, die scratches inside the O of OF, and horizontal die scratches from the F of OF to the first A of AMERICA. No significant obverse markers have been noted. The 2013 Philadelphia nickel was struck during the modern Monticello era after the return to Schlag's original reverse design following the 2004-2005 Westward Journey series, and six documented DDRs for this date reflects continued variety research on contemporary issues.
