Description
On 2012P-1DEO-026T, trails rise off the heads of the letters in LIBERTY at 340°, north-northwest. TrailDies' number: date 2012, Philadelphia P, cent 1, DEO (the design extends on the obverse), file 026, T for trails. Cracks mark the back of Lincoln's head and his forehead on this stage C coin; on the reverse, a crack traces the shield's upper right edge, passes the apex and enters the field, and a small gouge sits above the designer's initials on the right. Mark Britton found the die. Unlike 025T, it has no lines from the date. Trails are commonly attributed to polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
