Description
2012P-1DEO-025T has trails at 340°, north-northwest, from the tops of LIBERTY's letters, the date and the ST of TRUST. TrailDies' code gives 2012P (year, mint), the 1 of a one-cent coin, DEO for a design extension on the obverse, 025 as the file, and T for trails. Struck late in the die's life, this coin has a crack from the rim through the W of WE into Lincoln's head; on the reverse, a chip at the shield's apex sends a crack out across the field. Mark Britton is credited with the find. Trails are usually blamed on polishing of the die with a rotary tool, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – a die crack is seen from the rim through the W of W and into Lincoln’s head.
- Reverse is LDS – a die chip is seen on the apex of the shield. A die crack has formed from the apex and into the field.
