2012 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-018T Trail Die Obverse

Description

2012P-1DEO-018T has trails hanging from LIBERTY's letters, running at 200°, south-southwest. TrailDies' code is made up of 2012P (year and Philadelphia mint), 1 (one cent), DEO (design extension, obverse side), 018 (file) and T (trails). Its mid-life coin has a plain obverse; on the reverse a crack follows the top left border of the shield over URI. Mark Britton found the die. Only LIBERTY carries lines here, unlike 011T, where the date has them too. Trails are usually attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
