Description

Trails come from the digits of the date on 2012P-1DEO-017T and run at 220°, southwest, toward the lower left. In TrailDies' system, 2012P marks date and mint, the 1 a cent, DEO the obverse as the side with extended design, 017 the file, and T trails. TrailDies records a clean obverse for its stage B coin and a crack along the left top edge of the shield, above PLURI, on the reverse. Mark Britton found the die. Compare 2012P-1DEO-029T, which also has 220° trails from the date. Trails are commonly blamed on polishing the die with a rotary tool; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
