2012 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-015T Trail Die Obverse

Description

2012P-1DEO-015T has trails from TRUST's first T, WE's E and the word GOD, running at 080°, a little north of due east. Here 2012P is the Philadelphia year, 1 the cent, DEO the design-extension code for the obverse, 015 the file and T the trail type. Late in the die's life, its coin shows a crack in Lincoln's forehead and, on the reverse, a crack along the shield's upper left edge above PLUR of PLURIBUS. Mark Britton reported it. 2012P-1DEO-023T has lines in a similar place but due east, at 090°, and no markers. Trails are generally attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary tool, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
