2012 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-014T Trail Die Obverse

Description

2012P-1DEO-014T is a dual-direction die: lines rise from the tops of LIBERTY at 010°, a touch east of north, and drop from the bottoms of the date's digits at 170°, a touch east of south. TrailDies also points to the solitary line on the Y's left stroke, which it thinks came from a master die trail. Its code covers 2012, Philadelphia (P), the cent (1), an obverse design extension (DEO), file 014 and trails (T). Neither side of the middle-die-state coin carries markers. Jacob Hines found the die. Trails are most often put down to polishing the die with a rotary buff, while some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
