Description
Trails hang beneath LIBERTY's letters on 2012P-1DEO-010T and run at 160°, south-southeast. Its file is 010; around that number TrailDies places 2012P for date and mint, a 1 for the cent, DEO to show an obverse design extension and T for trails. TrailDies saw no obverse markers on its mid-state example; on the reverse a small chip sits on the shield's border over the U in PLURIBUS. Joe Koelling found the die. Several 2012 obverses have lines below LIBERTY, so the 160° angle and that chip over the U are the points to check. Trails are usually attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary tool; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – none noted
- Reverse is MDS – a small die chip is seen in the shield’s edge above the U of PLURIBUS.
