2012 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-006T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Instead of distinct lines, 2012P-1DEO-006T shows distortion along the tops of the letters of LIBERTY, pointing at 000°, due north. TrailDies cautions that planchet grain also runs through LIBERTY on this coin and should not be read as trails. Its number joins 2012P to the denomination 1, the obverse design-extension tag DEO, file 006 and T for trails. Its stage B coin has a die scratch linking GOD's D with the T of TRUST; on the reverse, chips sit along a crack at the shield's top left, and small dimples show under the outer lettering. Albert Neils Sr. found the die. Trails are usually put down to polishing the die with a rotary tool; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.

Die Markers

• Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – a die scratch is seen from the D of GOD to the T of TRUST.
• Reverse is MDS – a die crack with die chips is seen along the top left edge of the shield. Dimples can be seen on the reverse die under the peripheral letters.
