Trail die varieties occur when a die retains ghostly transferred images from a previously hubbed or stored die surface, embedding secondary design elements beneath the primary strike. At Stage C, both the obverse and reverse have reached late die state, which is significant because trail die impressions can become more visible as the primary design elements lose sharpness from cumulative wear, allowing the underlying transferred imagery to emerge with greater relative contrast. The obverse at LDS shows no additional noted markers beyond the trail die imagery itself. The reverse, also at LDS, exhibits die chips and die cracks along the upper edge of the shield -- a diagnostic constellation that confirms this specific die pair and helps distinguish 2012P-1DEO-003T from other trail die varieties on the same date.
