2012 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

2012P-1DEO-002T has trails at 180°, straight down, from the 01 in the date and from LIBERTY. TrailDies says it resembles its 001 die, with differences in LIBERTY. In code form that is 2012P, the Philadelphia date; 1, a cent; DEO, design extension on the heads side; 002, the file; T, trails. The middle-die-state coin has heavy die scratches across the left-hand fields and through LIBERTY, which set it apart from 001, and on the reverse a crack on the shield's edge above PLURIBUS. Lynn Morace found the die. Trails are generally explained by polishing the die with a rotary buff; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
