2012 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-001T Trail Die Obverse

Description

On 2012P-1DEO-001T, lines drop from the date and from the RTY of LIBERTY at 180°, due south. The number holds file 001 among TrailDies' 2012 Philadelphia obverses; read in order it is date and mint (2012P), denomination (1, one cent), DEO for an extended obverse design, then the file and T, meaning trails. Its middle-die-state coin has no markers on either side, so the placement of the trails is the guide. TrailDies calls its 2012P-1DEO-002T similar, apart from differences in LIBERTY. George dePozsgay found the die. Most attribute trails to polishing of the die with a rotary tool, while some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
