Description
2012-1DEO-004T is a 2012 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield cent obverse whose TrailDies number has no mint letter; after the date come 1 (cent), DEO (obverse design extension), 004 (file) and T (trails). Light lines rise from the tops of the letters in LIBERTY, and one more from the top of the 1 in the date, all at 000°, straight up toward the rim. On the middle-die-state coin, a crack starts at the bottom of the 0 in the date; the reverse has cracks along the top edge of the shield and another running from the top of the shield into the field. Albert Niles Sr. found the die. Trails are usually put down to polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – a die crack is seen from the bottom of the 0 digit in the date.
- Reverse is MDS – die cracks run along the top edge of the shield. Another die crack is seen entering into the field from the top of the shield.
