Description

The 2011 (P) Native American Dollar - Position A, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date collection. The U.S. Mint reported 29.4 million Native American dollars from Philadelphia for 2011 as a whole; no separate count of Position A edges exists. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2011 Native American Dollar commemorates the 1621 peace treaty between Plymouth Colony settlers and the Wampanoag Confederacy. The reverse shows hands at either end of a ceremonial peace pipe. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #505201.
