Description

The 2011 (P) Native American Dollar - Position B was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a dollar in the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint struck 29.4 million 2011 (P) Native American dollars in all, Position B and Position A together; how the total divides between them is not recorded. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2011 Native American Dollar commemorates the 1621 peace treaty between Plymouth Colony settlers and the Wampanoag Confederacy. The reverse shows hands at either end of a ceremonial peace pipe. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #505203.
