Description
The 2011 (S) Proof Native American Dollar is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. Total mintage reached 1.7 million. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back, while the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. Designed by Glenna Goodacre/Richard Masters. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #505208. The Sacagawea Dollar (2000-2008) honored the Shoshone woman who guided the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The 2000-P "Cheerios Dollar" variety (different tail feather detail) is a valuable modern rarity. The Glenna Goodacre Presentation Dollars (in 22-karat gold finish) are extremely rare.
