2011 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

2011 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 2011 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong extra thickness shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE CENT, the LB initials and the shield, with the widest spread on the left side of the reverse. Wexler adds that the shift of the hub also distorted the leftmost letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, which are incuse in this design. Obverse markers: two short, strong diagonal gouges on the neck at the back; a short vertical gouge over the top left of the second T in TRUST; and a pre-die crack depression going NW through the eyebrow into the forehead. Reverse markers: a short scratch going north from the M in AMERICA, at its top left; a light crack along the top of the shield on its left side; and a light pre-die crack depression along the top on its right side. Billy G. Crawford submitted the variety. Crawford lists it as CDDR-001 and CONECA as 1-R-VI; its Coppercoins number is 1DR-001. Wexler's photos compare the doubled LB, E PLU and ON of ONE with the same areas on a normal coin. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
