Description

Strong extra thickness on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE CENT, the LB designer's initials, and the right scroll — with the strongest effect on AMERICA — marks this 2011 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-3148, DMR-005, three die stages document the die pair's progression. Stage A shows the reverse at EDS with a die chip on the front of the forehead at EDS. Stage B is MDS (unconfirmed). Stage C is LDS (unconfirmed). The Lincoln Shield Cent, designed by Lyndall Bass with the Union Shield reverse, debuted in 2010 as the permanent successor to the 2009 Bicentennial designs. The extra thickness is strongest on AMERICA, making those letters the primary diagnostic for attribution.
